Q: What is the shelf life of the end products?

A: The shelf life of the plant-based beverage mainly depends on your sterilization methods and the filling containers and the ingredients you add.

—If you hot filling into bottles or cans, and there are two sterilization processes, then the beverage will have more than 12 months shelf life.

—If you aseptic filling into cartons with UHT sterilizing, then the shelf life can reach 9-12 months.

—If you cold filling into bottles with pasteurization technology, then the shelf life is about 7-45 days in a cold chain environment according to the ingredient you have added.

Q: What is the most popular sterilization method in a plant-based milk processing plant?

A: When we make the plant-based milk, there are three sterilizing technology that are used mostly:

— Indirect UHT sterilizing: Before filling into containers, one tubular UHT sterilizer(137℃ for 3-5S) will be used for thermal treatment of the material. After sterilizing, the material can reach commercial aseptic.

—DSI direct sterilizing: Use the steam directly spraying into the material to do the heat exchange to complete the sterilization. DSI sterilizer(150℃ for 0.1S) has a better effect than the UHT sterilizer as the sterilization time is shorter.

—Retort sterilizing: After the plant-based milk is filled into containers, the secondary sterilization technology will be used. As the milk is neutral material, so the retort sterilizer(120℃ for 15-20min) is used. The retort sterilizer will be used only for hot filling technology.
